On 13 February, 2025, CUHK(SZ) hosted the Spring Reception for Media on campus, with the presence of nearly 100 journalists from media across the nation, including Xinhua News Agency, China News Service, Guangming Daily, China Daily, etc. CUHK(SZ) President Professor Xu Yangsheng and the newly appointed Governing Board Chairman of CUHK(SZ) and the ninth Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Professor Dennis Lo, joined other senior representatives from both universities to welcome the media.
Prior to the media reception, CUHK(SZ) held two major ceremonies: the unveiling of the Surgical Minimally-invasive and Artificial-intelligent Robotic Training Centre and the Inauguration Ceremony of the School of Artificial Intelligence (SAI) and International Forum on Artificial Intelligence. These milestones reflect the University’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge research and fostering innovation in artificial intelligence and medical technology.
Following the media gathering, Professor Xu Yangsheng engaged in a group interview, addressing the establishment of the School of Artificial Intelligence and the broader development of artificial intelligence in Shenzhen. Professor Xu remarked:
“Shenzhen has unique advantages in the development of artificial intelligence. On the one hand, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, where Shenzhen is located, boasts one of the most comprehensive industrial chains in the world, providing a solid foundation for the application and promotion of AI technologies. On the other hand, Shenzhen’s institutional innovation offers distinct advantages, as its ability to establish supportive legal frameworks enables the AI industry to attract abundant resources and generate a strong ripple effect.”
Professor Xu further noted that the goal of establishing the School of Artificial Intelligence at CUHK(SZ) is to nurture a large cohort of world-class talent in the AI field. The University will bring together a team of leading academic experts to build a comprehensive research system encompassing the entire chain—from foundational theory to core technologies to industrial applications. From AI Core, to AI+, to AI for, the University will foster interdisciplinary collaboration with other schools to explore innovative pathways for cultivating top-tier AI talent.
Since its establishment in 2014, CUHK(SZ) has consistently regarded the media as an essential bridge between the University and society. Through events like the Spring Reception for Media, the University not only expresses its gratitude to its long-term media partners for their support but also highlights its achievements in talent development, research innovation, and community service.
