On 10 April, 2024, a group of students from Muse College, CUHK(SZ) attended the Global Conference on Climate Change: Polar Studies, Environment and Climate Change at CUHK. The conference was one of CUHK’s 60th anniversary events and commemorated the visit of China’s first independently built icebreaking polar exploration vessel, Xuelong 2, to Hong Kong.

During the conference, CUHK(SZ) students were able to listen to the views on climate change expressed by global experts, including academics, government officials and industrial leaders, together with an audience of more than 2,000. The discussions focused on finding solutions to the challenges posed by climate change. The students were also able to witness a discussion between local students and scientists from Xuelong 2 on the research conducted at China’s polar research centre and life in Antarctica.

The students also gained a better understanding of global climate change issues by visiting the CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC), the world’s first museum dedicated to climate change. During their visit, the students admired the striking climate change exhibitions and were given a guided tour of the museum by the MoCC’s enthusiastic student ambassador, who was a student at CUHK.
