On March 12, 2025 (Wednesday), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) [CUHK(SZ)], and the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at CUHK to establish a Joint Postdoctoral Scheme. This agreement marks a significant milestone in fostering cross-border research collaboration and strengthening academic ties between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The MoU outlines a framework for joint recruitment and training of postdoctoral researchers, enabling scholars to work across both CUHK and CUHK(SZ) with support from the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality. The initiative aims to attract top-tier talents, enhance research capabilities, and contribute to the Greater Bay Area’s goal of becoming a global innovation hub.
A delegation of senior officials from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, including representatives from the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and the Education Bureau attended the signing ceremony. The MoU was signed by Mr. Wang Chuhong, Director of Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Developments) of CUHK, and Prof. Cai Xiaoqiang, Associate Vice-President of CUHK(SZ). The signing was witnessed by Mr. Chen Qing, Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Standing Member, Member of the Leading Party Group of the Municipal Government, Prof. Poon Wai-yin, Acting Provost of CUHK, and Mr. K.C. Yuen, Vice-President (Administration) of CUHK(SZ). Their presence highlighted the significance of this collaboration in advancing academic and research excellence across the region.
Following the signing ceremony, the delegation visited the Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center and the Hong Kong Center for Logistics Robotics at Hong Kong Science Park. These visits provided insights into cutting-edge developments in medical and logistics automation, highlighting the role of interdisciplinary research in advancing healthcare and supply chain technologies. The delegation also toured the State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease at the Prince of Wales Hospital, where they engaged in discussions on digestive disease research.
This collaboration is expected to foster long-term academic partnerships, drive innovation, and reinforce CUHK’s role as a bridge between Hong Kong and mainland China.
