On 2 August 2024, the Faculty of Science, CUHK, visited the School of Science and Engineering at CUHK(SZ). The visit was led by Professor Song Chunshan, Dean of Science, CUHK, marking the team’s first in-person visit. The team expressed gratitude to Professor Tang Ben–zhong, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, CUHK(SZ), as well as to Professors Luo Zhiquan (Vice President, Academic of CUHK(SZ) and Zhu Shiping (Vice President, External and Student Affairs of CUHK(SZ) for their warm hospitality.
During the visit, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions regarding institutional overviews, teaching, and research, further strengthening the connection between the two institutions under the spirit of “One brand, two campuses.”
Professor Zhu Shiping commenced the meeting by emphasizing the importance of maintaining close cooperation between CUHK and CUHK(SZ). Professor Luo Zhiquan highlighted the need for both universities to seize opportunities for development in the Greater Bay Area, and to promote deep collaboration across various fields to create a brighter future together.
Representatives from both institutions shared updates on their current status and recent developments. Faculty members from CUHK, including Professors Kwong Fuk-yee, Chan Ho-yin, Zou Jun, Wang Jianfang, Chow Tat-shing, and Yam Sheung-chi, discussed the research directions, achievements, and future plans of each unit. Professor Tang Ben–zhong also provided an overview of the School of Science and Engineering and explored potential areas for future collaboration in Co-teaching, Co-research and Co-laboratory initiatives. Following this, other representatives, including Professors Wong Nai-ching, Wang Xiaoping, and Huang Rui, showcased significant achievements from the School of Science and Engineering since its establishment nine years ago.
The visit concluded with a tour of the scenic campus, marking a successful end to the exchange. This engagement not only deepened the relationship between the two faculties but also provided an open platform for academic, teaching, and research discussions, exploring future directions and possibilities for collaboration on joint development. Currently, both faculties have successfully launched two double–major programmes that integrate the Hong Kong and Shenzhen campuses, namely the Interdisciplinary Data Analytics & X Double Major Programme (IDADM) and the Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics & X Double Major Programme (ASEIDM). Through harmonious coexistence and continued close relations, the two institutions are poised to pave the way together to a brighter future!
