The Joint New Student Orientation for the Interdisciplinary Data Analytics & X Double Major Programme (IDADM) and the Aerospace Science and Earth Informatics & X Double Major Programme (ASEIDM) was a remarkable event held on 21-22 September, 2024. This two-day orientation brought together 50 students from CUHK and 54 students from CUHK(SZ), aiming to foster collaboration, introduce students to their new academic environment, and build a sense of community among the participants. The event took place at both campuses.
On the first day at CUHK, students from CUHK(SZ) were warmly welcomed by their counterparts from CUHK. The day began with a welcome speech from Professor Poon Wai-yin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), CUHK. Her inspiring words emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary learning and the unique opportunities offered by the double major programmes. The day continued with ice-breaking and team-building activities, informative briefing sessions by CUHK Campuses Collaboration Office, Office of Student Affairs and Office of Co-operative Education Programme, and a comprehensive campus tour. In the late afternoon, students travelled to CUHK(SZ) campus, where the day was concluded with a delightful welcome dinner.
The second day at CUHK(SZ) began with a group photo session, capturing the enthusiasm and unity of the participants. Professor Cai Xiaoqiang, Associate Vice President (Education & CUHK Affairs), CUHK(SZ), delivered a welcome speech, followed by welcome addresses from various school representatives. Students then attended parallel sessions tailored to their respective programmes, which included detailed introductions to the various majors and an engaging Q&A session. The day also featured a campus tour and a group lunch, providing further opportunities for students from both campuses to bond. The orientation concluded with a recap session, where students shared their experiences and reflections, marking the end of a successful event that set a strong foundation for their academic and social journey in their respective double major programmes.
