During the event, attendees visited the Memorial Garden and former residence of Ling Daoyang, commemorating Professor Ling’s contribution to CUHK, Chung Chi College, and United College. Professor Ling’s belief about education has a profound impact on students’ holistic development, having laid a solid foundation for their academic advancement and character building.
Thereafter, officiating guests and all other guests joined the “Leaf Collection Ceremony”. The leaves written with blessings and memories were collaged on the backdrop with a tree pattern, forming a large tree with exuberant green foliage and trunks, which serves as a token of gratitude for Professor Ling’s never-ending nurturance of CUHK and the colleges.
A delegation of United College, including: Professor Tang Sze-wing, Associate College Head; Mr. John K.H. Lee, Council Chairman of the College Alumni Association (UCAA); Professor Barley S.Y. Mak, Senior College Tutor and Dr. Joseph C.K. Mak; Mr. Davis C.K. Man, Council Member of UCAA; Dr. Hui Yuk-lun and Mr. Kelvin Y.M. Yeung, Executive Committee Members of UCAA; Professor Leung Pak-wah and Mrs. Leung, former Overseas Representative of UCAA and Mr. Chan Wai, Assistant College Development Officer of United College, attended this meaningful commemorative event to recognize the outstanding contributions of Professor Ling, the 2nd President of United College to Chinese forestry and education in Hong Kong.
During the opening ceremony, Professor Tang presented a commemorative plaque to Ling College on behalf of United College and delivered a tribute speech, recounting and expressing gratitude for Professor Ling’s contributions to United College. He also quoted Professor Ling’s inaugural message from the first issue of the United Bulletin published in 1960. The quote mentioned the need for higher education to progress towards an “ideal state”, where the talents it nurtures shoulder the arduous responsibility of improving the human destiny in terms of knowledge and character. He emphasised the spirit and significance of Professor Ling’s education vision. In addition, College alumnus Professor Leung Pak Wah presented his new publication and delivered a speech.
