On 18 May, 2024, the Second Inter-University Student Friendly Games between CUHK and CUHK(SZ) officially kicked off at CUHK(SZ)’s campus. The event, held in celebration of the 10th anniversary of CUHK(SZ), aimed to foster connections and friendships between students from both universities through competitions in men’s football, men’s volleyball, and tennis.

The opening ceremony took place at 9:30 AM in the outdoor sports area of the CUHK(SZ) Sports Complex. Among the attendees were Dr. Elean F.L Leung, Director of the CUHK Physical Education Unit; Professor Zhu Shiping, Vice-President of CUHK(SZ); Professor Henry N.C. Wong, X.Q. Deng Presidential Chair Professor; Professor Zhang Yanjie, Director of the CUHK(SZ) Physical Education Department; and over a hundred students and faculty from both campuses.

Professor Zhu Shiping delivered a welcoming speech, emphasizing the spirit of “one brand, two campuses,” and highlighted that “both campuses are like home for the students.” He encouraged everyone to actively engage in sports and enjoy the fun it brings.

The competitions then got underway with football, volleyball, and tennis. In football, players from both sides put up a tough fight, with CUHK(SZ) edging out CUHK in a close 5-4 victory, thanks to their solid teamwork and strategies. In volleyball, CUHK took the win with excellent teamwork and a variety of scoring plays. During the tennis matches, athletes demonstrated remarkable skill and tactics, with CUHK(SZ) players earning strong results across several categories.

At lunchtime, athletes from CUHK and CUHK(SZ) came together to enjoy a buffet and exchange experiences. They all agreed that the event not only sharpened their skills but also helped them better understand each other. This friendly competition was not just a showcase of athletic talent but also a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties and collaboration between students from both universities.
