Since the inception of CUHK(SZ), CUHK the Library has worked in partnership with the new campus to help design CUHK(SZ) Library, provide a starting collection of books to furnish the new library’s shelves, and advise on the establishment of the service. Ten years later, the CUHK(SZ) Library has been going from strength to strength, with its new University Librarian on board in March. Both CUHK Library and CUHK(SZ) Library were recognised in the recent Quality Assurance Council report for their work in supporting the teaching and research activities on each campus, and the libraries are resuming closer communication after the hiatus caused by COVID-19 disruption.
A group of 20 CUHK Library staff visited the CUHK(SZ) Library on 8 May 2024. The welcoming party was led by CUHK(SZ) University Librarian Professor Ge Jianxiong, who greeted CUHK University Librarian Mr. Benjamin MEUNIER and a team of library professionals from a wide range of departments at CUHK Library. The visit started with a tour of the beautiful Shenzhen campus and a visit to Diligentia College hosted by College Master Professor Gu Yang.
After a hosted lunch for Library colleagues from both campuses, Professor. Ge introduced Mr. Meunier to CUHK(SZ) President Professor Xu Yangsheng. In the afternoon, Professor Ge formally welcomed the visit and shared his extensive experience as a researcher in historical Chinese maps and as a University Librarian. Ms. Helen Wang, Assistant University Librarian at CUHK(SZ), presented an overview of services and strategic priorities, user services, and digital education. Then, Ms. Lily Ko, Head of Research & Learning Support at CUHK Library, gave a presentation on “Navigating CUHK Library, ” outlining the Library team structure, subject services, user activities, makerspace utilisation, data management, and faculty liaison.
Colleagues from both libraries then took the opportunity to break into small group discussions, where they shared working experiences and explored opportunities for future communication. Mr. Meunier gave a closing speech to thank Professor Ge and his team for their welcome and hospitality, commit to future collaboration and invite a reciprocal visit to Hong Kong for CUHK(SZ) Library staff later in 2024. A tour of the Library concluded the fruitful day of exchange between our university libraries.
