Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences, CUHK, and Yau Class, CUHK(SZ) sign Memorandum of Understanding | Jointly cultivating leaders in Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence

On 13 April, 2026, Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences, CUHK (hereinafter referred to as the “Zhizhen School”) and the Yau Class, CUHK(SZ) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding today. The two parties will uphold the spirit of “One Brand, Two Campuses”, leveraging their respective strengths in mathematical sciences and interdisciplinary fields to jointly build an innovative, cross-campus, and international talent cultivation pathway for students.

The two parties will introduce two “2+2” modes for students of both the Zhizhen School and the Yau Class, CUHK(SZ):

1. Single Major
Students will alternate their studies between the two campuses, systematically acquiring a solid foundation in mathematical theory and cutting-edge application skills, while sharing the top-tier academic resources of both institutions.

2. Double Major
While fulfilling the requirements of a mathematics major, students will also take core courses in artificial intelligence, developing interdisciplinary competencies at the intersection of mathematics and AI.

Under the “2+2” mode, students will spend two years studying at each campus, achieving the following:

  • Shared Top-Tier Academic Resources: Access to faculty, libraries, laboratories, and academic seminars from both campuses;
  • International Cultivation Platform: Alignment with global frontiers in mathematics and AI research;
  • Cross-Campus Training Pathway: Alternating study between two campuses to broaden academic perspectives and cultural experiences.

This collaboration aims to cultivate leading mathematical talents who possess deep academic grounding, outstanding innovation capabilities, and a strong sense of social responsibility, contributing to the advancement of mathematics and interdisciplinary sciences both nationally and globally.
