This June, 20 students from CUHK and eight students from CUHK(SZ) united for a transformative 7-day, 6-night “Rural Revitalisation Summer Service-Learning Trip 2026” on Yushan Island, Fujian Province. Moving away from conventional volunteering, this journey served as a dynamic platform for cross-campus synergy and genuine community impact.
Throughout the week, students seamlessly blended their academic expertise to address local needs with warmth and innovation. Their collective footprints covered every corner of the island – from conducting health surveys for village elders in Dongjiao Village to hosting an interactive cultural exchange day for local primary school children. They also left a lasting mark by painting a vibrant mural in Zaomiao Village that captures the shared memories of both campuses, while simultaneously developing cultural booklets to support the island’s sustainable tourism.
The reflection sessions every evening offered a precious space for deep dialogue, allowing strong bonds to form amidst intensive teamwork. The trip concluded with a final presentation where students shared their insights and received volunteer certificates. Though the journey on Yushan Island has wrapped up, the shared vision of these youth will undoubtedly continue to inspire sustainable rural growth.
