On 8 March, 2025, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Wang Yifu from the School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ), 28 students embarked on a field study at CUHK’s campus. The aim of the field trip was to advance their knowledge of climate change and sustainability through a visit to the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change (MoCC), the world’s first climate change museum, and nearby Lake Ad Excellentiam.
During their visit to the MoCC, the participants were taken on a guided tour by a number of enthusiastic MoCC Ambassadors who were fellow students at CUHK. The students enjoyed the museum’s vivid exhibitions, which helped them to gain a better understanding of climate change. They were able to view real-time online monitoring data showing the melting progress of polar ice. The MoCC visit concluded with the opportunity to try out a specially designed interactive carbon footprint calculator, enabling each participant to appreciate the close connection between their personal choices and their impact on the Earth.
Participants then joined an eco-tour of CUHK’s beautiful Lake Ad Excellentiam, where they were able to identify the various trees that grow around its banks and observe the different species of birds which frequent the lakeside. This visit gave them a better appreciation of the importance of caring for the environment, while also giving them an enjoyable opportunity ‘to put theory into practice’.
